Last week, the students worked with charcoal in art class to draw a variety of famous structures from around the world (a cross-curricular art activity – part of our study of Strong and Stable Structures in Science). We talked about how charcoal is a wonderful art tool to use when creating works that have dark and light areas or tones (value) as well as shades of grey. I printed off a variety of dramatic black-and-white photographs of various famous structures that the students could try to draw. I was very pleased with the striking images the students created! Here are some photos. They did a great job! These charcoal drawings are proudly displayed in the hallway outside of our classroom.
